When driving on the road it is of high importance that the person behind the wheel has a high level of driving safety. This is especially if they are carrying passengers but even if they are travelling alone they should be as safety cautious as possible because of the other road users. All drivers in the UK have to pass rigorous training in road safety before being granted a license to drive legally on the roads of the UK.
Here are some helpful pieces of advice you can follow to ensure you are driving as safely as possible.
Driver ConductYour conduct on the road is a very important part of driving safely. When driving your motor vehicle you should make sure to follow these all important rules:
- Do not exceed the speed limit stipulated by the law
- Do not use mobile phones, even if its hands free
- Always be respectful and courteous of other drivers
- Do not drive under the influence of alcohol or illegal substances
- Regularly check your mirrors (blind spots)
If you don't look after your vehicle and regularly keep it maintained, then unknowingly you could be on your way to a fine from the police or even worse be involved in an accident.
Here are some handy tips to help keep on top of your vehicles maintenance:
Bulbs – Always make sure you check your bulbs regularly and carry a spare set of bulbs for your car as this is commonly over looked by most people. You can carry them in your boot and make sure your owner's manual is handy so you know how to fit them.
Oil - Regularly checking the oil in your cars engine helps keep the car engine running smoothly. It's a good tip to check a car's oil level when the engine is cold. If you do it after the engine has been running, the oil may be deposited higher on the dip stick and, on some vehicles, could give false readings.
Tyres - Check the tread on your tyres as over time they wear out, and also check your tyres pressure to make sure they are at the right pressure. It also pays to have a spare tyre in the boot, in the event that you may suffer a flat tyre.
The above are basic vehicle maintenance checks that you can carry out yourself. However it is advisable that you take you're vehicle to a local garage and regularly have it serviced.
We'll leave you to decide whether these tips work for you or not. However, please let common sense prevail at all times.
