The Work of the Community Transport Association The community transport industry is massive. There are over 100,000 minibuses in operation transporting well over 10 million passengers every year, that are operated for use by voluntary and community groups, schools and colleges. The door-to-door transport is not limited to minibuses though; there are voluntary car schemes all over the UK where a volunteer will use their own car to provide transport for individuals.
Overcoming social exclusion is at the heart of what community transport has always been about. The CTA is committed to helping its members obtain this objective in their area both in terms of the direct support it can offer such as training, development support etc.
TrainingThe CTA runs its training programmes throughout the year and in all parts of the UK. Training courses range from practical courses such as those on the legal obligations and
emergency evacuation procedures for minibus drivers to courses including project development, budget planning and profile building. Courses are continually updated and improved to take into account new developments.
CTA Journal is the leading publication for the voluntary and community transport sector. It is published six times a year and includes the latest news, features, advice and product information from across the sector.
PublicationsThe CTA publishes a large number of books and documentations that cover a wide range of subjects that are relevant to voluntary and community transport operators.
Development WorkThe CTA has development staff based in all four countries of the UK who work with voluntary transport groups or people wishing to establish them. They are involved in detailed local development work with community transport operators and with supporters of community transport services.
Advice and InformationThe CTA operates a free advice and information service in all four countries of the UK and in the Republic of Ireland, in conjunction with the Community Transport Association of Ireland. This service is able to give detailed answers to legal, technical, developmental and other questions. The CTA is also authorised to issue minibus permits to its members.
ExhibitionThe CTA runs an Annual Exhibition featuring all of the major vehicle manufacturers and converters working in the transport sector and a massive array of accessible equipment and other vehicle accessories.
